Nightmare in the clouds

leave a comment »

“Nightmare in the clouds” is extremely dramatic and full of  intensity. A young girl stuck in a nightmare and her only protection, a small red umbrella is torn from her hands. All of the dark clouds circle a fair girl dressed in white her hair being blown violently in front of her contrast and make the focal point, the young girl, stand out. This painting reflect the artists own fear of darkness and large storms.

Silhouettes and Sunsets

leave a comment »

Silhouettes and Sunsets is a simple and romantic piece. Easy to understand and easy to appreciate. A cute couple (though you can’t sere their faces) kissing at sunset on the beach. The bright colors in the back hot colors in the sky and cool in the water come together in a brillant sunset behind plain black silhouettes make this painting simply sensational.

Fireflies

leave a comment »

The painting entitled Fireflies by Helen depicts a dear childhood memory of catching fireflies on a warm summer night. and then keeping them in a jar through the night for light. An almost comic color scheme and a dark back round with layers and layers of paint create a dramatic an childhood piece to cherish.

In the painting “Dancing with Myself” there is a girl under a spotlight shrouded in darkness dancing with herself. Her green dress and red hair contrast fit into the color scheme really pop. The painting quotes and drew inspiration from the song “Dancing with myself” by Billy Idol.

Paint in the Wind

leave a comment »

In Paint in the Wind by Helen there is a great contrast between the black and the white gives the piece a dramatic flare. It was made as a companion piece with “Because of You” also by Helen. In this the wind coming through the door is blowing the heartbroken man away. The title is a play on the song “Dust in the Wind” by Kansas.

Because of you

This painting by Helen is titled Because of you. This painting quotes the song because of you by Kelly Clarkson and Rebeca McEntire. The focal point is a girl all alone on a swing. This contrast of popping color in the middle of a white canvas is truly stunning.

AVATAR in REAL D 3D!!!!!!

leave a comment »

Jake and Neytiri Last night I went to go see the new epic, 3 hour, in 3d, movie, Avatar. Sure I’ll admit it any day I’m not really a sci-fi sort of person. But I LOVED this movie!!!

The movie starts when Jake Sully’s (Sam Worthington) twin brother, a scientist dies. His brother was part of a science project on a far away planet, Pandora. The science experiment hooks up a human’s nervous system to a body that looks and works like one of the native people. So how does our protagonist, an ex-marine, get looped into a complex science experiment? Well the Avatar can only be connected to the person it was designed for. And because Jake’s identical twin brother is dead the brought in Jake because he would be able to connect to the Avatar as well. Jake runs into one of the native women, Neytiri, (Zoe Saldana). First this “dream walker” is not accepted by the people but soon he is one of them. But could the marines ruin the world, place, and people, Jake loves.
The movie definitely earns all the praises it has been given, and the PG-13 rating. The logic behind the story may be a bit iffy. But the themes are true no matter what planet you’re on.
